TIMBER FAQ ANSWERED

Will you charge me for an estimate of my timber’s value?

We will not charge you for an estimate if you are selling timber in Ohio

Get an accurate and an honest estimate of your timber value from a professional forester

We provide an on-site timber value estimate free of charge. This initial visit involves a professional walk-through of your woodland by a certified consulting forester. During this inspection, the forester evaluates species composition, tree sizes, stand density, timber quality, and site conditions. Using field observations together with statistical projection methods commonly used in forestry, we develop an informed estimate of your timber’s potential volume and market value based on current Ohio timber market conditions.

Never take a timber buyer’s word for it

You are not required to be present during this visit, but we strongly encourage landowners to walk the property with us if they are able. This gives you the opportunity to see what we are evaluating, ask questions, and discuss your goals for the land. Some landowners are focused on income, while others care more about wildlife habitat, future timber growth, or keeping certain areas undisturbed. Those priorities matter, and they influence how a timber sale is ultimately designed if you choose to move forward.

This free estimate is intended to give you meaningful, usable information. It helps you understand what your timber may be worth, what factors are driving that value, and what selling would realistically involve. There is no obligation to proceed.

Our process guarantees you get maximum value for your timber sale

If you decide to sell your timber, the process then moves into a more detailed phase. At that point, we conduct a full timber inventory, mark selected trees, and prepare a formal prospectus for competitive bidding. Your timber is marketed to multiple qualified buyers, creating competition. That competition is what produces strong pricing and protects you from low offers that often result from one-buyer negotiations.

Forestry services we do charge for

Some forestry services are separate from estimating and marketing a timber sale and are not free. These include establishing the tax basis of your timber for IRS purposes, writing formal woodland management plans, and implementing long-term management plans. These services require additional field work, documentation, and long-term professional involvement, and they are only necessary for landowners who specifically request them.

If your goal is simply to understand what your timber may be worth and whether selling makes sense, that on-site estimate and statistical evaluation are provided at no cost and with no obligation.
