We are independent consulting foresters in eastern Ohio, with many years of experience in logging, timber stand improvement and wildlife habitat restoration. Our sole purpose here is to shield people (and their land) from dishonest timber buyers and unethical loggers who prey on unsuspecting landowners.
We act as your advocate and market your timber to independent, reputable and honest timber buyers. By casting a wide net and leveraging our experience in forestry and logging, we can keep everyone honest. And we create an orderly, competitive bidding process to ensure you get the maximum value for your timber — and a smooth, well-managed harvest that you won’t regret.
How our process works
9 clear steps to ensure you get maximum value, accountability and transparency throughout your timber sale
1. Consultation
We start by understanding your goals for timber management and wildlife habitat. Whether you’re focused on timber stand improvement or developing good wildlife habitat, we have expert consulting foresters who will create a harvest plan to suit your needs.
2. Site Inspection
Next our forester inspects your timber stand, assessing every tree and marking all mature hardwoods that are suitable for harvest. We also evaluate how accessible the land is for the equipment needed to harvest it.
3. Timber Inventory
We provide you with a detailed report listing every mature tree in your stand by species, grade and size, along with an estimate of total board-feet and value — highlighting any especially valuable veneer trees. Together, we’ll decide which trees to cut and which to leave, in close alignment with your long-term objectives.
4. Timber market analysis
We give you a clear view of current timber market conditions, including expected bid ranges, so you'll know what to expect before we invite buyers to bid.
5. Marketing to buyers
We reach out to reputable, honest timber buyers and loggers to create a competitive bidding process among them for your timber. At least six reputable buyers (and often 8 to 12) will assess your stand. All will know that other buyers are evaluating it too, which protects you from low-ball offers and gives you the best chance to receive top market value for it.
6. Bid management
After their inspections, interested buyers will submit their best bids by a date certain. We present these bids to you immediately afterward with complete transparency.
7. Selecting the best bid
Together we review all bids and choose the best offer. We help you prepare a sales contract, and you'll receive an upfront payment of at least 25% of the sale price with the remaining balance to be paid to you in full before the harvest can begin.
8. Harvest oversight
Once the harvest has begun, we make multiple, unannounced site inspection visits to ensure that your contract is followed. We make sure the loggers respect your property boundaries, harvest only marked trees, and minimize damage to other trees and the forest floor.
9. Post-harvest review
After the harvest, we inspect the site to confirm that all the work was done properly. We’ll also share any follow-up actions required or recommended to support your land management and wildlife habitat goals
