Will harvesting my timber harm wildlife?
Harvesting timber can actually benefit wildlife in your woods by creating a more diverse and healthy habitat.
When mature trees are removed, it allows sunlight to reach the forest floor, promoting the growth of underbrush and new saplings. This increased undergrowth provides bedding cover and food in the form of “browse” for various wildlife species, including deer.
Additionally, we leave tree tops and smaller limbs on the property, which offer shelter, and bedding and nesting sites for many animals. We also do hinge cutting and occasional clear cutting of small areas to improve wildlife habitat. These methods help to create a balanced ecosystem where wildlife can thrive.
Our entire forestry team is committed to managing your timber in ways that support and enhance the natural habitat for the wildlife in your area.
